NYC and SANDY

On Friday, my galpal Tia and I headed up to NYC for a weekend. The plan was to see Laurie (Chica) old roomie from college and check out the Men's Health Urbanathlon in Queens. Tia is wanting to do the event for her 40th next year.

It was a beautiful fall day ...

The next day we walked the East Village (where we were staying).
Me @ Brooklyn Bridge, it was on T's bucket list. Pretty cool spot.

The Twin Towers Memorial - the security was tighter than TSA. It made me wonder where the $$ comes from and why? I understood the attack and sensitivity but it was quite intense. The site it self was peaceful. If this was instituted in DC no one would ever go to a monument.

NOW Sandy...

We were staying in the East Village around 16th St and 1st Ave. The map above was issued Sunday AM...we were smack in the zone 1/2 evacuation area. Over the weekend there were dozens of updates and warning. Once this came out we were relieved to be leaving in a few short hours. The stores and pharmacy's were packed. We got on the bus and within an hour they announced shutdown services effectively 7pm till Tuesday. The East Village had some flooding, 100% power out but our hosts are safe and sound.

Home...safe and sound, a little stir crazy but happy to be out of harms way. LoLa was a little shy and refused to go out except for a quick pee. I am grateful that we were prepared and not upset by the hype in our neighborhood. In the end all is good.
