10-miler in VA Beach

From Random_pics

On 12.3.10 I drove down to VA Beach for the 10-miler w/a great group of young girls (Leah, Meredith, Ana, and our cheerleader Kara). I have to say against my pride I was extremely sick...throat, ears, nose, etc. I had the voice of a Snoopy character. For several days leading up to the race I was drinking cough syrup and chasing it down with some pills of NyQuil...talk about daze and confused. Couldn't take the time off because of job-mate was leaving KaBOOM!...that's for another blog.

Anyway the pictures above are from the balcony of the hotel. They had a blvd of Christmas lights, you could drive down the boardwalk ... too tired and the girls enjoyed the hottub. I passed out on the cot.

The actual run...I would have to say was my worst performance. By mile 1 I knew the girls needed to run on and keep the pace they had; I took the slow, emphysema, chest cold pace. I had several people question me as I coughed and removed gunk from my system. By mile 8 I was given the option to loop or head toward the finish...by now I couldn't breathe so I threw in the Santa hat and ran over the finish line. On paper I made great time, so for the record I "finished". All three of the girls accomplished their goals. I just considered it another day. I finally caught my breathe.

All of the photos of the race day are on facebook.
