So Thursday was an above then normal day of activity for me. I spent it at Georgetown University Hospital having a small hip surgery. My in case of emergency team was my Mom and my friend Danielle; they were big supporters throughout the day. We arrived around noon and drove home around 6PM; in that short amount of time they managed to poke me, cut me, internally sew and re-shape muscle, sing to me, drug me with heavy narcotics, and give me three new soon to scares spots.
After checking me in we were escorting down to the orthopedic wing and surgical center. Upon which they had a state of the art recliner/pre-post room. I was given a fancy gown to put on - had pockets for ventilation in the arm pit, stomach and thigh regions. Then I was asked to give a urine sample, now mind you I hadn't eaten or drank a single think since midnight. Luckily I delivered ... with much surprise. They were then going to do a full medical background - I was asked about 100 questions a couple I wasn't sure of good thing my mom was there to fill in a few blanks. She also wanted to inform me that I had no STD's and I was not pregnant...I said "bummer, and I was a little worried". Mom and Danielle laughed and she looked puzzled I then told her it was a joke; still she didn't find it funny.
After 30 mins of waiting I was getting antsy and stood up and that's when my anesthesiologist and nurse showed up. My mom tried to prep them about me having small veins and waking up in rage to the last bout of drugs. Matt (my super cute Anesthesiologist) was very understanding, the nurse as well. So the checked out my left had - no go, then moved over to my right they said "oh, we have a winner". She went for the poke, started to dig and could get it to work. Matt stepped in and said we will go another route. Put her under with gas on the table and then put one into her. Danielle was so very excited for me; I almost felt like I should of done a gig...but wasn't up to doing so. Then I inquired about the music played in the OR he said it varied. We well said as long as it isn't some NKOTB (New Kids on The Block) because they are "making" a comeback I was good with it. He laughed and then next thing I over heard him whistling the song "Hanging Tough", we all laughed at him...he cursed me with a smile - super cute doctor. Well my surgeon Dr. K came buzzing through the room sat for a brief moment and then initialled my name with a pen --- gotta get the right one and then he took off. A few moments later Matt walked me to the OR. I walked in and had such anxiety I asked if it was the storage closet because of the amount of random looking equipment...all laughed. Then then had me hop on the table, very uncomfortable table, I asked if it was ergonomic...they said not for you but for us it was. Within minutes Matt was telling me to breathe deep and take in the gas.
I awoke shivering in the phase 1 post OP room missing a sock. It took me about 15-20 mins to become fully awake. I sat there downing some ice chips - super cotton mouth. I listen to this overly talkative 15 year old girl go into detail about her favorite words to use while talking. My nurse Tiffany keep asking me questions and I told her I was just listening to the conversation next door and I was fine but cold. Still in a lot of pain she gave me something so strong it made my hand feel like it was on fire...she said that was normal. She then took me to phase 2 OP room that is where I started. Mom and Danielle came in and we started the wrap of my day. I don't recall much except a lovely nurse name Susan from Boston taking my vitals and offering me some more drugs which I took and some juice. About 30 minutes later I was dressed and being shuttled to a car. Danielle drove Mom and me home with a small detour to Great Harvest for some bread - good on the tummy while taking serious drugs. We got home and I was taken upstairs after seeing all of my housemates and feeling very tired. I know the phone rang several times but couldn't tell you who all I spoke too or if my mom took the calls.
I didn't mention this but Mom had a camera and so some of them will be posted...not all ... sorry I have final say.

Your surgery experience sounded like fun! I liked laughs and jokes you had with the medical staff. Who does this before surgery?? I am sure they appreciated the humor for a stressful day. Did you ask if Matt was single?
