So this morning on my way to the gym my thoughts were on gym injuries and how I have been pretty fortunate not to have too many and that I should stretch more just to prevent and that I would not lift weights today and I would run on the treadmill if it killed me (because I am in training for another race). Well all these thoughts are now haunting me.
I took the easy way out and decided not to face the terrible treadmill and instead bike and lift...well the bike - great! Lifting...hmmm, well I started with the leg press nice decent weight and after recalling a talk I had last night with Bryan about how it takes a significant more amount of weight and frequency to build muscle I decided to do more reps and add an new position (the weight was fine). Well - BAD mistake, so I started with a typical press legs shoulder width apart; did a couple sets like that. By the way my goal was to do 8 sets; then I decided to do them knees together - tad bit harder on the lower back and hips, this is where it went down hill by set 6 a muscle kinked up in my lower back. I thought to myself - that doesn't feel to good. Sure enough climbed up and out of the seat and thought I was going to never be able to sit again. So instead of listening to my body I proceeded to do some chest and arm exercises...now this entails me picking up and putting weights down to the ground. The pain started to increase, so I said OK lets move to the stair climber - I was determined to get in 45mins of a workout...well I lasted 15mins on this machine. So I stiffly walked over to the stretching area and looked like a praying Muslim for 10mins. I admitted slight defeat got dressed for work and metro my way into the office (of course extra bumpy ride); made a quick stop over to CVS drug store for several icy hot back pads and some pain reliever.
So now I am trying to sit very still in my chair with an icy hot pad on my back - that just kicked in (YES!!) and some anti-inflammatory drugs hoping to kick in. I curse my morning thoughts and pray that this isn't a sign that I'm getting older.

it's definitely a sign of aging, if you ask me. i went to the gym last weekend and didn't do hardly anything, and i had to lie on a heating pad for an hour or so to recover. i'll be checking out walkers in no time.
