Auction

Last night I decided to reach out and make some new friend...or at least meet some new people. It was enrichment night and the event was RS Birthday/Service Auction. Now they have been pumping this event for weeks now, sending around sign-up sheets and passing out cute fliers.

I skimmed through the list and saw tons of single ladies putting up baby-sitting nights - how cliche? I was reluctant to participate but figure why not, have nothing to lose so I contributed a organization/cleaning out clutter visit and a get-in-shape training with fun weights and exercise cards.

The evening went down as followed - two tables were set up with several silent auction items from baked goodies to an autographed children's story (some women in the ward is a published author - great way to expose yourself). Well, I had my eyes set on some hand-made cards and a gift for a potential baby shower. To determine the monetary value they had a chart with 50 questions and a dollar value next to each question. If you said yes to any of them you got money; tallied mine up to $260 not bad, woman next to me $210 but some women (super giants - $400+) Well I won the baby-shower item lost the cards. Then we sat down had a lovely speaker address us while we ate (these married folk really step up - excellent soup/salad bar). After all that was said and done we had a live auction - the madness began...women were going crazy for haircuts ($600), family portrait ($550) and baby-sitting nights ($600+); some woman would combine money just to get a night off from their kids. Well there were so many items on the sheet that about 45 Min's into it I got tired of watching so I left with my baby shower gift in hand. I met a couple girls and ate for free...all in all a pretty successful night.

Don't know what my items brought in but I will see if anyone collects on them.
