the B.U.S.

My newest "adventure" is taking the DC metro bus to work.

I have several transportation options - bus, metro, combat biking, running, driving. For the past couple if weeks I've been mixing it up.

Today I choose the metro bus... let me set the scene. First it was 15 mins late. I'm already late for work. (sigh)

The bus is an old, warn and rackety wood panel model. There is a woman with headphones on singing like she is auditioning for American Idol and Simon is about to rip her apart...but she doesn't care. There are several young children in there school uniforms eating breakfast; tired teenage moms. Across the row is a wanna-be baller talking on the phone about his latest "conquest". In the back of the bus it is a lively debate between older men and the topic is down low shame of life. In the front are the foreign ladies with head scarves and face coverings. And there is me...business dress typing on her iPhone.

The route takes us along the affordable housing complexes, up to the gentrified hipster neighborhood to my new place of employment foodie/eclectic borderline of DCs version of suburbia. Where it continues on to upperclass tutor style neighborhood.

Little by little thy shuffle off and more and more the bus welcomes young ladies with their yoga mats and renegade "it" novels. By the time we get to my stop it is silent and down to me and another girl reading a literary classic.

Gotta love the city.
