Today was a glorious spring-like day; mid 60's. I applied for a handful of jobs and then around noon I spent several hours out in my neighborhood.
I have this quaint park nearby (Stanton Square). It has a grand horse statue in the middle. There is a simple playground off to the side. I spent some time in the middle on a bench reflecting and basking in the sun. After that I felt guilty staying in my apartment, so I took a jaunt to the Capitol; again just a few blocks away. I admired the Supreme Court building along the way and the Library of Congress. I even paused to think about some of my own moments at the Capitol.
I found myself taking in all the tourist that were hustling and bustling. I then found myself walking around Union Station, I picked up a macaroon (a favorite) and walked the path that I normally walk after a day of work. Along that path is my homeless friend, Peter. He is a vibrant man. He eyed my goody bag and I ended up giving it to him. He told me about the spy encounter of the day. Apparently he is a huge believer in conspiracy theories.
I may crave for a job and the next adventure but for a brief moment I embraced my neighborhood.
Come spend a day with me.
