This was the concert of all concert...We ARE ONE...a celebration for Preident Barack Obama...and I left before it all started. YEP...I left early; the weather and negative crowd won. It was 15 degrees out and over a million people.
My die hard crew arrived on site at 6:30 AM and I arrived at 9:00 AM; the concert wasn't scheduled to start until 2:30 PM. People were just clinging on to each other for body heat. I even caved in and allowed someone to lay on my legs just to keep me warm.
Around noon the crowd started to get restless and push forward; our space was becoming limited. I was starting to panic and not feel so great about the vibe and my feet/toes had lost all feeling. So I gave my crew and big farewell and headed back home. I knew the concert was going to aire live on HBO; so I figured why not watch it from home and sit by a fire. That is exactly what I did.
I gave myself points for bearing the cold and saying I saw some great sound checks - Tom Hanks, Denziel Washington, Tiger Woods, Renee Flemming, and Josh Groben.
