Yesterday I was taking a little break from the daily grind and walked to the nearby grocery store. It is a lovely store and I was just cruising around with my hand basket. All of the sudden a very loud alarm was going off. Suddenly the employees started cursing and say..."why NOW???". I thought this sounds like a fire alarm...well I thought it was a false alarm.
A minute later over the loud speaker and Coldplay I was informed to quickly evacuate this is not a test. So suddenly I started at my basket and wondered what do I do with my food (I had refrigerated items). I saw that people just dropped there carts and basket right where they stood and walked to the nearest exit. So I placed my basket down and proceeded out of the store.
Outside many people were complaining and very put out with this setback. I myself was just wondering how long would this last and thankful I didn't have any items in my basket that would melt. I was Another thing that I found interesting was that there was a very loud crowd outside of the entrance and very evident that there was no foot traffic going into the store. Yet several people clearly walked up to the door and walked in without asking what was going on. Then they were immediately asked to turn right back around and go outside. I guess the large crowd and buzzing noise didn't raise any red flags in their minds. Well 15 minutes later the alarm went off and we were let back in. I went to my basket and then proceeded to check out.
As I was grabbing my last bag at the check out stand the alarm went off again and they have to evacuate once more. I walked out pleased that I had made my purchases in a timely manor.
FYI...there was no fire in the building.
