Runaway Brides

Very, very early Today I was part of a TLC reality show. A friend/colleague at work asked me last night if I would go with her to this...The sale is held in selected Filene’s Basement stores once a year (twice a year in Boston). News reports so often compare it to the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain that the event is now officially called the “Running of the Brides.”

It was sheer madness. I arrived at 6:30AM and the line was 1 block long and growing rapidly.

The bride along with some other co-worker and another staffer bride-to-be. The myth was a total reality. In line there were all shorts of teams (pro's, novice, desperate, and newbies).

Hundreds of women shoving, pushing holding on to gowns for dear life and only willing to give up in exchange for a "better" dress. There were signs with sizes, women shouting for lace, color, and length. By the time we got into the store...literally less then 5 minutes after it opened the ENTIRE racked area was vacant. Groups of women/girls would whore dresses into a pile and then asses what they got and then exchange. I was just in awe and realized it was time to get into the game. I managed to snag some dresses and start bartering from my friend. We broke up and would me in random parts of the store. I witnessed verbal fights, eye stokers, dress Nazi's, barely clothed brides, and stressed out brides.

You would hear cheers, clapping, screaming once "the dress" was found. About an hour and thirty minutes in my friend was victorious and found a $3400 dress for $699. (Couldn't post the picture in risk of the groom seeing it.)

My staffer was left behind - I had work to do. She had another 3 hours till she needed to be into the office. I'm sure she will find something.

This was all I have to show of my labors...
