Escalator / Elevator - been on one lately?

I know it is late in the week and I have been meaning remind everyone it is National Escalator/Elevator Safety Awareness Week. This is something that made me giggle earlier this week when I read about it in the paper. Aparently it is a serious matter and something we all should be cautious when using. Now I know very little about this world and defer all inquires to my friend Sharon who happens to work for an Elevator company - she knows things about this mode of transporation then anyone I know. So the next time you are riding one of these mechanical people-movers take a moment and make sure you are on it safe and sound.

You know, there are a multitude of stupid things you can do on an escalator and I understand how people can get hurt on them, but honestly, how dangerous are elevators? Unless you really overload one or something, can you really do anything to prevent an elevator accident? Doesn't it all boil down to freak mechanical failures?

I would have to agree that it most like does boil down to mechanical and human failures. I have seen some freakish things on the escalator - flip flops and shoe laces caught. No good.

Going through Salt Lake Airport on Sunday I saw a couple letting their toddler stand barefoot on the moving walk way. I was so worried about her little toes.
