saddle up partner

Well this weekend I decided to step out on my own again and try horseback riding. Now mind you this is a first - the closest this city girl has ever gotten to a horse was when Knott's Berry Farm had a Petting Zoo and I petted one as a child. Well for $32 I committed myself to hang-out with a group of LDS "mid-singles" (singles from 32-45) and I have to say I was the 3rd prettiest in the group and youngest...scary but good ego booster. The ride was scheduled to be in the Shenandoah's - beautiful area and an hour long. There were 36 people; two groups of 16. The ranch was 2 hours away - lovely car ride with 3 older singles who thought 31 was super young; but treated me kindly and appreciated my humor. We finally got there and the adventure began. Bugs everywhere and horse poop galore - very smelly and you had to pay attention to where you stepped. There was a lovely campfire - weather permitted and I appreciated.

So I don't ever really plan on riding a horse ever again - the TV and Movies make it look relaxing and joyful - WRONG-GO-BONGO...I have never been so tense in all my life. My horse was nice - Pickett...very calm but the ride was a wreck - all single file and the horse behind - Big Mac was not controlled at all by the rider - very obnoxious girl who would allow her horse to sniff and bite my horses butt. It was driving me crazy.

And in front of me the horse has THE WORST GAS --- EVER!! The rider kept apologizing and smiled. Also one of my new top 5 fears - being torn from a horse almost happened. Two horses in front of us got attacked by a horse fly and started bucking her rider and turned toward us and my horse panic - I grabbed the reigns while the bucking horse ended up kicking the horse rider behind me in the leg and caused quite a stir - it was very alarming and I still had 40 minutes to "enjoy the ride" and listen to the girl behind moan and not control her butt loving horse.

But on the bright side the ride was in a beautiful part of the country the leaves were just starting to turn autumn like and the scene was calm minus the ride and horse walking up and down rocky terrain. Also played a sick game of horse shoes and enjoyed some lovely dutch over chili and cobbler and of course met some very nice "mid-singles". All in all another one time adventure checked off my very long adventure list.

This sounds a lot like my one (and only) experience riding horses a year or two ago. My horse bit other horses, among other things. Very alarming; I understand what you mean about being tense the whole time.

I on the other hand was on the same ride with Sarah and thought it was a delightful experience. I've been threatening to try it again ever since. I did have a good laugh at the expense of the guy who couldn't keep his horse from eating. The guide was joking around that the horse was going to gain ten pounds on the ride.

I was on that same horse ride, and I thought it was great. My horse did keep turning it's head around and looking at me, and I was at first concerned that it might bite my leg. I reassured myself that there's no way they'd stick a dumb tourist on a horse that bites it's riders. Wrong! With about 10 minutes left in the ride one of the guide people rode up next to me to see how I was doing, and to check and see if my horse had bitten me yet. "She bites all her riders." I did escape unbitten but after he told me that she really would bite I was scared to death of her.
