Well ladies and gents...on Monday we completed our 1304th playground in Long Beach, CA. Three days prior we had site prep, logistic meetings, several runs to Home Depot (two locations - Spring and Cherry...big difference). Met some famous people (1st Lady Maria Shriver, Kimora Lee Simmons & Family, and Grey's Anatomy star Sara Ramirez) and saw hundreds of smiles. Given the fires that consumed most of Southern California the Governor had bigger things to do then dedicate a playground - pretty good excuse but won't accept for next year's project. We installed a playground, 3 murals, a community garden, 4 benches, landscaping, and a pirate ship - all done within 6 1/2 hours. I walked Kimora around the site, helped her girls paint watched her mix concrete for 2 minutes and realized her nanny and I went where in the same sorority in college in Utah (exchanged contact info)...Kimora liked me even more.
Bryan was kind enough to take a day off of work and by my assistant and photo journalist and balloon set designer. I needed those extra set of hands - THANKS! He got a volunteer shirt for his labor and troubles. Did I mention the very handsome firefighters that helped grill food for 300 people - they stayed for a few hours and then left to tackle the fires.
