Last week I was determine to get out of this city and see some other East Coast gems...so early in the week my travel companion - Bryan worked his magic and was able to get out to DC and we set our travel eyes toward "bean-town" - Boston! We started out on Thursday afternoon; about midway up to NYC we determined it was silly not to stop and see Bryan's oldest SD friend Robb. He called him and we ended up having dinner and staying over. We got a little lost getting to Manhattan - we thought there were two cities and we wondered which one was Manhattan - well being the geniuses we are we realized it was upper and lower Manhattan. We crossed over via the Lincoln Tunnel - after paying our 6 toll - they BLOW!!! I may or may not have jumped a curb to get where I needed. But we drove right pass Time Square and ended up with killer parking...so we thought. Thanks to the poor sidewalk painting and sign placement the next morning I awoke to a $115 PARKING TICKET!!! Not happy.
Well we got on the road and for about 4 hours we saw tons of trees and not much local towns; however we did stop in Norwalk, CT to eat breakfast - small diner...excellent grits! We arrived to the hotel around 1'ish, a very nice Hilton about 10 miles north of the city center. All cleaned up we decided to embrace public transportation and T-Line it into the city. The ride was pleasant and it dropped us off at the North Station in the heart of the city. From there we walked over to Quincy Market. Very cool street, tons of people shopping and taking in the local architecture. From there we walked over to the famous Clock Tower - now a Marriott Hotel. We hopped into the elevator and the housekeeper hit a floor now of course Bryan it's the top on but we don't have a key so she slips hers and hits it...we have the biggest grins on our face. Once we get to the 19th floor we notice another elevator it opens and some guys assumes we were waiting to go up...well of course we were. So now we are on the 26th floor and it leads to the observation deck...KILLER views and we were just elated! After we broke into the hotel we walked out and determined we would head toward Boston Commons. The walk was very entertaining and architecturally wonderful. We stumbled upon the oldest cemetery in the city - we both commented about our Mom's loving that and would walk through...we just took a picture instead - sorry Mom. Upon arriving to the "commons" area - a lovely park and state capitol was across the street. Then after cruising the love park and water pond we decided it was high time to pay homage to the one and only "Cheers", so we walked in and part took of some tasty treats and beverages. After that we decided that it was a lovely night that we would walk to Fenway Park - you take the best 25-30 minute walk along Beacon St. - amazing houses, absolutely stunning. We arrived at the famous Fenway Park - tons of Sox fans; they were playing the Baltimore Orioles - 3 games series...SOLD OUT. So we sat at a great sports bar and watch for about an hour then our dogs were tired so we rushed back to the T-LINE and called it a very long day.
Part two tomorrow...
