directions

I have committed the cardinal sin - "Don't act like you know what your talking about when it comes to giving directions", if you didn't know about this rule let me educate you. So this morning making my normal commute into work I notice this women sitting next to me starring at a metro map and being discreet - visitor written all over her face. Well I stopped reading and asked if she was lost or unsure of where she was going she replied that she was lost so I kindly listen to her and told her that she was close and she needed to get off at the Chinatown stop and then get on the Red line train toward Grosmont and get off at the Convention Center. Well she was relieved and I felt great...until I was on my train heading to work and realized I sent this poor woman into a travelers worst nightmare - non-existent-ville. Yes, I gave her not only wrong directions but ones that don't exist. My brain was thinking one thing while my mouth was spiting out another. I should have told her to stay on the train and get off at the next stop - Convention Center/Mt. Vernon. I felt so bad on my way in that I was imaging her looking for this non-existent stop and her watch realizing she was lost and took the advice from a "local", I wondered what to do and came to the sad realization that I could do nothing, I sent this poor woman into a terrible, rotten, frustrating experience...what a way to start a Monday.
