Today was another reason as to why I love my job...yes there are moments when I wonder if I am doing the right thing but today was not one of them. Today a small group of us went up to Baltimore to lead a Design Day at a charter school in partnership with the Baltimore Ravens. We met in the library with 25 students, 15 parents/staff, 2 Raven Cheerleaders, and Poe the Raven (team mascot). Well the 4 hour event went off extremely well. The Cheerleaders and Poe the Raven where a surprise to the kids. We had the kids first design their dream playground and then present them to the Ravens staff. After that we taught them how to us a kazoo and the was the cue for the cheerleaders and Poe the Raven to come out. Well the girls came out and did a cheer and then Poe the Raven leaped out. He came out with so much energy he made the kids scream with shock and 2 girls cried. I guess they aren't use to seeing a large bird flap it's wing and jump up and down like he is about to take off. Well the girls finally settled down and the festivities continued. I have to say all in all the day was a success. Not only did I learn a Raven cheer but we are providing a playground to 500 children in the inner city who don't even know what a see-saw is. The big build day is going to be June 11th...can you picture it - I am hoping to be an honorary cheerleader and have a player show me a touchdown dance.
